Wang powers past Todd to make first PPA final
Zoey Wang booked her spot in her first career final on the PPA Tour with an 11-6, 6-11, 11-7 victory over No. 5 seed Parris Todd.
The match featured contrasting styles, with Wang looking to use her powerful drives to get to the kitchen line to finish points and Todd looking to counterpunch with precisely placed passing shots.
In the end, the No. 8 seed prevailed after a tense encounter that lasted over an hour.
“[Parris] is a very tough player for me with her defense, so I just tried not to think about the pressure and play my game,” Wang said of the effort.
Wang has enjoyed a breakout season in her first full year competing on the PPA Tour, having earned bronze medals in Bristol and Salt Lake City back in August.
Now, she has a shot at gold.
The 22-year-old gave a special shoutout to her support system—especially those cheering her on from her home country of Taiwan.
“A lot of people have my back, so I’m happy that I could show out and play hard for them,” she mentioned.
Wang will face No. 6 seed Kate Fahey in Sunday’s final.
